Max Verstappen Dominates F1 US GP, Lando Norris Takes Second!
In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, reigning world champion Max Verstappen dominated the Formula 1 US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. But here's where it gets controversial... Lando Norris, in a fierce battle with Charles Leclerc, secured second place, while championship leader Oscar Piastri could only manage fifth.
The Circuit of the Americas witnessed Verstappen lead from pole, with Leclerc passing Norris around Turn 1, thanks to a better start on soft tires compared to Norris' mediums. Norris' challenge against Verstappen was hindered by falling behind Leclerc, leaving him unable to overtake the Ferrari for most of the opening stint.
A virtual safety car briefly interrupted the race on lap 7 due to contact between Carlos Sainz and Andrea Kimi Antonelli in Turn 15, triggered by Sainz, resulting in both drivers' unfortunate exit from the race.
Norris remained stuck behind Leclerc until lap 21, when he finally got close enough to pass him on the inside of Turn 12. This prompted Leclerc to pit for mediums, but by then, Norris had lost valuable time, with Verstappen's lead steadily increasing to 11 seconds. To add to Norris' woes, he received a black and white flag for three track limits violations while chasing Leclerc, putting him under pressure for the remainder of the race.
The second Ferrari, driven by Lewis Hamilton, followed three seconds behind Norris, with Piastri in a net fifth position. Piastri managed to overtake George Russell at the start but soon struggled for grip, continuing his low-key weekend.
Piastri made his only pit stop on lap 31 to protect against a potential undercut from Russell, with Hamilton, Norris, and Verstappen following suit on subsequent laps. By this time, Norris had closed the gap to Verstappen, but his pit stop put him behind Leclerc once more, this time on faster tires.
Norris, eager to make a move on Leclerc before his soft tires lost their edge, pushed hard but soon reported his tires were past their prime. He then bided his time, cooled his tires, and launched a successful attack in the closing laps, overtaking Leclerc on the main DRS straight and securing second place.
Hamilton dropped back from the Norris-Leclerc battle, finishing a distant fourth, just ahead of Piastri in fifth and Russell in sixth.
In an otherwise uneventful race, Yuki Tsunoda survived a tense fight with Oliver Bearman to claim seventh in the second Red Bull, with Bearman's spin also costing him eighth place to Nico Hulkenberg. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso held off Liam Lawson and his teammate, Lance Stroll, to secure the final point.
Piastri now leads the championship with a 14-point advantage over Norris, while Verstappen sits in third, 40 points behind, with five rounds remaining.
