This project is a collaborative effort between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures, with Justin Lin at the helm as director. Movie enthusiasts can mark their calendars for November 10, 2027, when this exciting new feature is set to hit theaters.
The Helldivers video game first made its debut in 2015, and its sequel, Helldivers 2, has experienced remarkable success, selling over 12 million copies on PS5 and PC within just four months of its release in 2024. The franchise has also expanded its reach by becoming available on Xbox, where it continues to thrive.
The narrative of Helldivers 2 revolves around a specialized team of soldiers known as Helldivers, who are tasked with combating formidable alien species that pose a threat to the fictional world of Super Earth. This premise promises intense action and adventure, appealing to both gamers and moviegoers alike.
Hutch Parker is producing the film alongside Asad Qizilbash from PlayStation Productions and Justin Lin through his own production company, Perfect Storm Entertainment. This partnership is part of a growing trend, as Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions have previously collaborated on successful projects like Uncharted, which starred Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, grossing an impressive $407 million worldwide and securing its place among the top 10 highest-grossing adaptations of video games. Other notable collaborations include Peacock’s Twisted Metal series and the critically acclaimed HBO adaptation of The Last of Us.
In addition to his role in Helldivers, Jason Momoa is also set to portray the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release on June 26. This is just one of many projects for the busy action star, as he currently stars alongside Dave Bautista in Amazon MGM Studios’ The Wrecking Crew, available on Prime Video. Furthermore, on May 1, he will appear opposite Ryan Reynolds in Warner Bros/Legendary’s animated feature Animal Friends.
